Carne Asada Tacos

Juicy, tender, and packed with bold flavor, carne asada tacos are a true classic. Made with marinated beef cooked to perfection and served on warm tortillas, this easy recipe brings authentic taco shop flavor right to your own kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Flap or Skirt Steak or 2 Steaks
  • Orange
  • Lime
  • 1 tsp Ground Coriander Seed
  • 1 tsp Oregano 
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder 
  • 1 tsp Paprika 
  • 4 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Chopped Cilantro
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • 1/2 White Onion, quartered 
  • 3 Roma Tomatoes 
  • 2 Tbsp Cilantro 
  • 1/2 Tbsp Lime Juice
  • Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce
  • 3 Avocados
  • 1/2 Red Onion
  • 1 Tomato
  • 2 tsp Lime Juice
  • 1/2 White Onion
  • 2 Tbsp Cilantro
  • 2 tsp Lime Juice
  • Corn Tortillas

Directions:

Marinade

  • Start by cutting the steaks in half so they can fit into a bowl
  • Cut the orange and lime in half and squeeze all the juice into the bowl
  • Add the coriander seed, oregano, onion powder, paprika, 2 cloves of garlic grated 
  • Finally, finely chop 1 tbsp of cilantro, and add salt and pepper, mix and let sit for at least 1 hour to marinate

Salsa

  • Next for the salsa, bring a pan to medium-high heat, add some oil and add the roma tomatoes, 2 cloves are garlic crushed, and 1/2 of a white onion, quartered. See video if unsure.
  • Let them brown and then add to a blender with, the 2 tbsp of whole cilantro, lime juice, 2 chipotle peppers and about 1 tsp of salt, and blend, pour into a container and set aside

Guacamole

  • For the guacamole start by cutting the avocados in half and smash or press them down in a bowl until there are no lumps
  • Next dice half of a red onion, one tomato and add that to the bowl, then add the 2 tsp lime juice and salt and pepper to taste, mix and set aside

Onion Cilantro Relish

  • Dice half of a white onion, and finely chop 2 tbsp of cilantro, mix in a bowl and add 2 tsp lime juice, mix and set aside

Meat

  • Cook the steaks over medium-high heat until browned then remove and let rest for 5-10 minutes 
  • Give your tortillas about a minute of heat on each side or until slightly browned
  • Next cut your steaks into very thin strips against the grain

Assembly

  • Finally start with a cooked tortilla, dump a generous amount of guacamole onto the tortilla, then as much carne asada steak as you can fit, and top with the salsa, and onion cilantro relish and enjoy!
