Fried Mac & Cheese Balls

Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, fried mac and cheese balls take a classic comfort food to the next level. These bite-sized snacks are packed with cheesy flavor and make the perfect appetizer for any occasion.

Mac & Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 1 Container of Macaroni
  • 1 Cup Fontina Cheese
  • 1 Cup Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Cup Monterey Jack
  • 2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Flour
  • 1 Cup Whole Milk
  • 1 tsp Salt

Directions:

  • Start by grating all the cheese, then set aside
  • Cook the macaroni according to the directions and set aside
  • Get out a pan over medium heat and melt the butter, then whisk in the flour and cook about 2 minutes
  • Whisk in the milk, then add all the cheese and salt, and stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth
  • Pour the sauce over the macaroni, mix well, then pour into a baking dish and flatten into an even layer
  • Cover and place in the freezer for 2 hours to harden slightly
  • After 2 hours, remove the tray from the freezer and slice the macaroni into a grid, making even sized squares
  • Remove each square and shape into a ball with your hands
  • Cover them again and put them back in the freezer for another 2 hours

Breading and Frying

Ingredients:

  • 2 Eggs 
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 2 Cups Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 2 Quarts Vegetable oil
  • Marinara Sauce
  • Grated Parmesan
  • Parsley

Directions:

  • For the breading station mix the eggs and milk in one bowl, pour the flour in another, and the breadcrumbs in a third bowl
  • Coat each ball in flour first, then submerge them in the egg wash and finally cover them in the breadcrumbs
  • Heat the oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and fry the balls in batches for 5 minutes or until golden brown
  • Remove the balls and place on a wire rack
  • Serve by spooning a scoop or two of marinara sauce on a plate, place the balls on top of the sauce, then grate fresh parmesan over everything
  • Finish by decorating with fresh parsley and enjoy!
