Ice Cream By Hand

Making homemade ice cream doesn’t require any special equipment. This easy no-machine recipe creates a rich, creamy texture using just a few simple ingredients and a freezer. It’s the perfect way to enjoy homemade ice cream without investing in an ice cream maker, and the results are every bit as delicious. Here is the recipe that I used to make it. Prep Time: 15 Minutes  |  Serves: 2-4  |  See Full Video Below

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Cup Whole Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Cup Rock Salt or Kosher Salt
  • Ice
  • 2 Zip Lock Bags

Directions:

  • Add the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar and vanilla to a container and mix together until sugar is dissolved
  • Pour liquid into a zip lock bag and seal it
  • Using another larger zip lock bag, fill it 1/4 to 1/2 way with ice and 1 cup of salt, then place the sealed bag with liquid inside the bag of ice and salt
  • Add more ice and salt to the large bag and finally seal it making sure to remove as much air as possible
  • Finally shake the bag using a towel to prevent your hands from hurting
  • Shake for at least 5-10 minutes, you want the texture to be like soft serve before freezing it
  • If the ice cream is too liquid, it will cause ice crystals to form which will ruin the texture of the ice cream
  • If the ice cream is not hard enough, continue shaking
  • Once ice cream reaches soft serve texture, serve and enjoy or freeze for a harder texture ice cream
  • Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy, you can also use this same recipe and tweak it to make any flavor you want! Example: Add 1 cup strawberry puree to get strawberry ice cream, or 1/3 cup cocoa powder to get chocolate ice cream!
